what's chocolate got to do with it?

as these rainy, dreary summer days go by i’ve been thinking a lot about motivation. and why is it that when it’s crappy out, all motivation goes out the window? it’s raining i can’t go to the gym. it’s raining i’m going to nap? it’s raining i don’t feel like go to the grocery? it’s raining i feel like snuggling all day? it’s raining i want to veg and watch movies all day? it’s raining and i have to W-O-R-K! L

i was speaking with a friend last night and we were talking (while both enjoying a glass of wine) about motivation and what does chocolate have to do with it? she has a hard time denying any form of chocolate; cake, bars, nuggets, kisses, brownies, ice cream, and (I had to laugh at this one) the chocolate chewable vitamins (viactive or something). she swears that at any office party, holiday, friends house, grocery store, coffee shop, etc. if there is something chocolate being offered, she automatically picks it up. she states half the time she doesn’t even eat what she’s purchased but on the other hand half the time she does. i told her i couldn’t help her w/ her problem and that she needed to speak to someone if it was that bad, sounds almost compulsive, all in jest i say, all in jest, you know i love!

so this got me thinking…what is it that you do to help keep you motivated? i’m talking motivation for every day things…vacuuming, cleaning, grocery shopping, washing your car, unloading the dishwasher, folding the laundry, walking the dogs, scooping poop, mowing the lawn, and my favorite, GOING TO THE GYM!! i personally just procrastinate to the last minute to do all of the above or until a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y necessary. Now the gym is another story….i psych myself up to go and if i don’t it’s a major mental punishment i put myself through. why can’t there just be 2 hours of the day that we all get to go to the gym w/out any interruptions? no late evening conference calls, no need to go to the grocery for substance after a workout, no sick dog, dinner w/ friends, etc. there are so many distractions. All of the above are my distractions that cut into my workout time and god knows I’m just not a 5am person to go to the gym! Just can’t do it unless it’s bright and shiny out which is motivation enough to get out of bed.

So what’s chocolate got to do with it……well in my opinion it just makes everything better!!!

  2. Going to the gym at 5:30 in the summers is much easier- it's warm and the sun is starting to shine. It makes me feel good to know I'm done with my workout before some people are even out of bed. Try it... you get used to that early-morning alarm. Enjoyed your message!
